Description:

This course will focus on the organizational structure and policies of The Salvation Army.  Cadets will examine the Minute Book (policy manual), including issues related to risk management, property and legal matters. An overview of corps administration, including pastoral care and corps councils will be included. Important documents associated with weddings, funerals, dedications and other ceremonies conducted by officers will be reviewed.

Outcomes:

As a result of completing this course, cadets will:

  1. Demonstrate knowledge of the Minute Book and it’s usage in daily Salvation Army ministry through verbal and written assessment, including the creation of a vehicle requisition.
  2. Develop an understanding of the officer’s role in conducting official ceremonies including documents required for weddings, funerals, dedications and enrollments and illustrating this understanding by preparing and presenting a wedding ceremony. The cadet will also have an understanding of the various roles and positions within the corps ministry and the qualities required for such positions.
  3. Implement their comprehension of risk management methods, legal concepts and property management principles by written response to a case analysis scenario in each of these areas.
  4. Recognize the necessity of applying organizational skills and management practices to the daily administration of a corps and formulating a written strategy for implementing these disciplines.
